Who Took Over Our Christmas?


“Peace on earth, Good Will to Men” the music plays.
While the Christian sees the crowds and prays.
Shopping and buying seems to be the big pastime.
And patience is forgotten as people stand in line.

Where is Our Christ in all this buying rush?
People want to buy and to be able to do so they push.
Manners are forgotten along with Our God.
Christ’s birth is celebrating our love of this season.

We as a Country have strayed far from the way;
Founded on Godly principles many do not even pray.
Santa takes pride of place in each and every store
And a small box at the side of the door is for the poor.

Looking back to the days when our parents were young.
One gift was fine and in the evening Carols were sung.
Now it is the computer, Ipod, Chat Lines, and Phones.
Our family is fractured and we fear for our homes.

We need to grab on to the new Conspiracy plan.
Refuse to submit to Satan, for we know that we can.
Remember, it is God who is in charge of our plans.
And we can place pride of place back in His hands.

Christmas Rush


Rushing and pushing from home to work,
But there is one thing you must not shirk
Stopping to take time out of your busy day
To draw close to God and take time to pray.

Forget all the things that need to be done.
And worship, lifting praise to God’s Son.
Our Christian world has become a race in time.
Sometimes as Christians we need a STOP sign.

Our priorities become jumbled, we need to decide
If we’re too busy for Christ we’ll surely backslide.
The Spirit will call you to take time to pray,
But if you keep ignoring Him each busy day

Soon His voice is quiet and you are in a place
Where you are ashamed to look upon His face.
Don’t let the rush of shopping be all the worth.
Happier you will be focusing on Christ’s Birth.

Mirror's Reflections


We are mirrors for each other.
That is how we learn and grow.
The lessons we desire to learn
Are for us to clearly show.

When I take a good look at you.
And there’s something I see wrong.
You must know there is something within me
That you have shown me to make me strong.

I know that I am beginning to heal
When someone says to me.
“Did you see how she treated you?”
And I honestly did not see.

Now whenever I am upset,
Or angry at someone.
It only takes but a moment
To remind me of God’s own Son.

Take heart, have patience, for it will clear by and by.
Trust in God most high who sees beneath Winter’s fields of snow
The silent harvest of Spring’s future grow.
God’s power he must know

Content to forget troubles locked in slumber deep.
Puts his worries aside for another to keep.

“The future” he trusts in God alone.

The man that watches the child’s eye-lids close.
He secretly knows each breath God bestows.

Our all sufficient eternal God.

Kind words make such good echoes.
They touch one person and then move on.
Until the echo reverberates all around,
Soon telling others of the happy sound.
People giving loving gifts of kind words!

Kind words make people feel so good.
Echoes come back to you unchanged.
Nothing added, deleted or re-arranged.
Words reverberate as you hear the sound.
God loves it when kind words are found!

Kind words are like music to the ears.
Speak as you would like to be spoken to.
God’s word instructs you what to do.
When angry words are hurled at you
The Spirit speaks words through you too!

Kind words start your day out right.
Setting your sights on God’s daily path.
A soft answer soon turneth away wrath.
Living for God teaches us how we can give
Witness as Christians so others too can live!

Ephesians 4:31 & 32   “Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.”

My church family helps me to keep a sky in my life
              and to always look up.
My church shows me how I can keep my hand in God’s
              and to hold on to Him.
My church seeks to see eternal values above the material
              and to extemporize to others.
My church family seeks to live life above self to
              worship and serve Christ.
My church family endeavours to see the good in others,
              to acknowledge and praise it.
My church family endeavours to keep sweet and to
              keep busy for Him.
My church seeks to have a seeing eye, a feeling heart,
              and a helping hand.
My church family sees others needs and meets them
              in praying and serving ways.
My church endeavours to test the motive of life and
              to choose the best,
To do justly, love mercy, and to walk humbly
              before our God.

God's Word


Scriptures are guideposts showing the way.
They are also the Spirit's guide when we pray.
Words penned by man but inspired by God.
Ensuring in battle our feet are well shod.

Scriptures tell of God’s love revealing the cost
That was paid for our sins, His Son on the cross.
The Bible is a shining light pointing the way,
And it is the words therein leading us to pray.

Scriptures are the way we learn and we grow.
So precious is God’s word, we need to know
God’s word ordains and the Spirit sustains,
Food for our minds and heaven still remains.

Scriptures need to be  hidden in our hearts,
That way when Satan throws his fiery darts
The Spirit gives answers from God’s word,
We respond with what we’ve read and heard.

“Thy word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against Thee.”

Hope


You, my Redeemer, give me such hope!
You bring joy after sorrow, peace after anxiety.
You who offers mercy after waywardness.
You who serves as my refuge in trouble.
You gather me up when I am in pain,
You ease my afflictions with Your words.

Weeping only endure but for a season,
But joy surely comes in the morning!
You have taught me to trust in You,
And not rely on the promises of men.
This world is not my home; here I serve,
I long for the day I will kneel before You!

I gather up ‘hope’ as a treasure in my hands.
And I warm it daily with Your Words.
It is as sweet savour, food for my body.
Nourishment for my mind which desires
To dwell on Your promises, for therein
Is the blessed hope of eternity with You!

Our Church


Our church has a heart that beats as one.
We all work together until a job is done.
It does not matter who gets the credit,
For no-one is standing over us to edit.

Here at our church there’s give and take.
We all unite together when we celebrate.
We share the burdens and divide the grief,
We are united together as one in our belief.

We love one another despite our mistakes
Because we believe our God undertakes.
There is joy in doing and love in giving,
God left us His word to teach about living.

We want to tell others about Jesus Christ,
How He died on the cross, His sacrifice.
His great commission is leading us on.
We won’t rest until our work here is done.

What hope I have in You, my Redeemer.
In you who brings joy after sorrow,

True Happiness


The happiness that brings enduring worth to our lives
Is not superficial happiness dependent on circumstance.
It is happiness and contentment that fills the soul.
Even in the midst of the most distressing circumstances
It is the kind of happiness that can smile through the tears.
The happiness for which our souls ache, is one not distracted
by success, or fortune, or disturbed by failure.
Deeply rooted inside, it can give relaxation and peace.
No matter what problems, yea heartache beset upon us
That kind of happiness stands in need of no outward stimulus.
It comes from knowing God, the author and finisher of our faith.

To Give


To give reluctantly, the gift of the hand, not of the heart.

A spirit of meanness within a pocket of plenty.

To give cheerfully but not in proportion to need
Does not look to the receiver to help and to feed
A spirit of pride fullness lying within a cold heart.
To give cheerfully and proportionately does impart

A kindness of spirit, from one who risks all to win
Not just a pocket cache but the man deep within.
And to give in such a way that the distressed do
Not now their benefactor, that is a secret too.

One goal is to teach a man a trade or to help find
Him valued work so that it challenges his mind
Foregoing the need for charity which demeans all.
Christ’s promise is to provide our needs as we call

For it gives such joy and pours bountiful blessings.

Lent


Count all the days of preparation.
Not as yet the day of celebration.
Days for us to remember Christ,
His suffering, death and sacrifice.
All that He gave up for you and I.
Think not of your years gone by.
Look ahead to eternity with Him.
Sins paid for, redeemed by Him.

Heaven’s gates will be open wide.
Christ and our family awaits inside.
This our reason for celebrating Lent
To remember that God willingly sent
His Son to suffer and die on that tree
Give up something together with me.
As a reminder of the Son God sent.
To unite us all in these days of Lent.

Lent is looking back.
Remembering, Reflecting
Lent is thinking of the Cross
And its silent suffering.
Lent is our repentance,
Not just for past sins, but
Present and future too.
Lent is daily renewal,
It is a starting again.

Lent really means less,
Thinking less of self and
Focussing more on others.
Despite obstacles in our path.
Despite what we have become.
Confessing and moving on.
Lent is laying our hearts bare.
Preparing us for the Cross,
Christ’s Death and Resurrection.

That is what Lent means to me.

Prayer

When I am sore oppressed I always come to Thee in prayer.
Thou art there, Thou art always there.

When I feel the world’s troubles are encroaching upon me.
Thy word is like the signal man, his light waves safety to me.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet.

Thus I must need to declare Your word to everyone that I meet.
Should I ever feel that my prayers lie unanswered, not heard.
I am reminded to give heed to Your word.

Heaven and earth shall pass away but Thy word shall remain.
I spend my time interceding for those in pain, and needful others.
You are the one that blesses, and covers.

With Thy Communion comes confession and sweet renewal.
I feel refreshed, my spirit shines, set upon me like a fine jewel.
I go out, knowing that Thou art alive!

Gray on White ~ White on Gray

A gray Winter’s day, clouds scudder, ones most nigh.
Longings for warm sun, rain hitteth my cold thigh!
Whence comes the wind, scuttering leaves we rake?
Spring seemeth far; this day I canst no longer take!
A voice speaketh not afar; t’is of me yet not from me.
Quietly t’is the peace of God, that sets my heart free.

Today sun so bright, skies are blue; I shade my eyes.
And yes, I stop, and whence cometh ‘The Why’s”?
Oh what changes hath an attitude clearly wrought?
One whose heart and mind are willing to be taught?
For truly, out of man’s heart and mind one reads
The child of God who willingly, Christ intercedes.

Psalm 90:14: NIV “Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love that we may sing for joy.”

Philippians 4:12 NIV : “I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is t have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength.”

Morning Choices

Morning comes, sunshine comes too.
I quickly rise up; so much I have to do!
Too soon I forget my promise to God.
Without taking time, my feet not shod.

My day starts so wrong, I wonder why.
At noon, pulled up short, I stop and sigh!
The discipline is hard and I wonder why?
Christ speaks softly, and He says to me.
“This morning I looked and I did not see
Your head bent in prayer and ready to be

Filled with my Spirit, replenished to go
Out in the world, your faith will show.
People see Me in your face you know.

Satan fights against mornings with Me.
With My word in your heart, others will see.
Recall your feet are shod with the gospel.
When you feel my Spirit urging you to tell

That man at work when he asks you why
Your language is clean, and you do not sigh
At the angry customer who shouts at you.
You have My Spirit and My word too.
So My Spirit’s power is living in you!”

New Year

The New Year can be a time for our reflection.
Determine to set our path in a new direction.
Apply the scripture gleaned from God’s word.
Messages we were taught, those we have heard

It is a clean white sheet, unmarked by time.
With God’s guidance we write each daily line.
We can confidently walk ahead, head held high.
To daily walk with God, His word we must apply.
Knowledge is superb, but only if it is applied

To our daily walk with Him, in every situation.
And New Year is a chance for our evaluation.
Did we follow through when this year was new?
Resolutions fail, it is what God in you can do.

Rededicate a New Year to God before it starts
It gives us a chance to re-examine our hearts.
Recognize where we failed; confession is good.
God understands, and we’re always understood.

And with a sigh, we can happily say “good-bye”
To 2011, another year that has quickly gone by.
And look forward to what God has in store for us
In 2012, every new day can be for us a ‘plus’.

Storms of life, adversity, no matter the weather.
We put our hand in God’s, face the year together.
